Recipe : Gulab Jamun

The event of Diwali is not complete, till there isn’t a sweet.
When we were kids, our Mother used to prepare so many sweets at home; but now our kids aren’t enjoying the same. So, this Diwali, give your children a glimpse of your childhood’s Diwali. So, this Diwali-  Kuch achcha ho jaaye, kuch meetha ho jaaye,  jisme Maa ke hath ka pyar bhi ho.

Gulab Jamun

Ingredients:

Soft Khoya or dhaap(Mawa)-500gm
Rawa (Sooji)-125gm
Sugar-500gm
Sweet sugar flower (elaichi dana or nakul dana)-40-45
Green cardamom powder-1/4 tsp

Method:

  • Soak sooji in water.
  • Then, in a milk pan take ½ liter water. Add sugar into it.
  • Keep it on medium flame for about 15-20 minutes or until the syrup attains 1 ribbon consistency. When it gets ready, add green cardamom powder.
  • Now, take all the khoya in a plate & mash it with your palm  till it gets smoothen so that not a single lump remains.
  • Add the soaked sooji in the khoya. Mix them well.
  • For making the balls, make small parts of the mixture. Roll them up filling the nakul dana.
  • Then, take ghee in a wok & heat it at medium temperature. Slowly, place balls for frying.
  • Let them fry until they attain a brownish colour.
  • Then, strain them out from the wok; & dip them into the hot syrup.
  • The hot & soft homemade gulab jamuns are ready to serve.
  • They can be garnished with chopped pistachios.
