Tip : Cucumber

Earlier, I had posted tips on 'Reducing weight naturally' and about the nutrients found and benefits of 'Bottle Gourd'. Now its time to share with you some nutrients found in cucumber and its benefits.

Cucumber

 Nutrients:

Cucumbers are low in calories but high in many important vitamins and minerals.


In 11 ounce(300 grams) unpeeled cucumber, the following amount of nutrients are found:

  • Calories: 45
  • Total fat: 0 grams
  • Carbs: 11 grams
  • Protein: 2 grams
  • Fiber: 2 grams
  • Vitamin C: 14% 
  • Vitamin K: 62% 
  • Magnesium: 10% 
  • Potassium: 13% 
  • Manganese: 12% 
  • Water: 96% water

Although, the typical serving size is about one-third of a cucumber, so eating a standard portion would provide about one-third of the nutrients above.

Benefits:

1. It Contains Antioxidants:-

Cucumbers contain antioxidants, including flavonoids and tannins, which prevent the accumulation of harmful free radicals and may reduce the risk of chronic disease, like cancer and heart, lung and autoimmune disease

2. It Promotes Hydration:-

Water is very necessary for the proper functioning of a human body. It is involved in processes like temperature regulation and the transportation of waste products and nutrients.
Cucumbers are composed of about 96% water, which may increase hydration and help you meet your daily fluid needs. 

3. It May Aid in Weight Loss:-

Cucumbers are low in calories, high in water and can be used as a low-calorie topping for many dishes. All of these may aid in weight loss.

4. Skin Care:-


Cucumber is rich in silica, which is an essential component that aids in developing strong and healthy connective tissues in the muscles, ligaments, tendons, cartilage, and bones.
Doctors often recommend cucumber juice because of the silica content for healthier and brighter skin.

5. Prevent Constipation & Kidney Stones:-

Cucumbers are a perfect blend of both fibres and water. Therefore, they help to protect your body from constipation and kidney stones.

6. Control Blood Pressure:-

It has high contents of magnesium, potassium and fibres; and thus helps in controlling blood pressure.

7. Control Diabetes:-

The presence of carbohydrates and their impact on the body is measured by the glycemic index (GI). Glycemic Index measures how carbohydrates contribute to raising glucose (or blood sugar) levels.
The glycemic index (GI) of cucumbers is zero. This anti-hyperglycemic effect is good for diabetic patients and, thus, can help in keeping the glucose level in check.

8. Other Benefits:-

Cucumbers are low in acidity, and therefore they can be tolerated by those with gastric sensitivities. Cucumbers also help in normalizing body temperature during summer due to their high water content.
