Poem : A Day Without Teachers

Apart from parents, only teachers guide us to the right path and celebrate our accomplishments. Like air is essential for survival, a true mentor is essential for dignity and self-respect.

A Day Without Teachers

Several verses, I read, about the divinity of teachers, 

Written by several saints, poets, and public preachers.

Maybe I, however, do not share the same thought,

I think, “Do teachers really have a key role or not?”

To answer this question, let us all do assume, 

Without teachers, what would be a classroom?

No teaching staff, how would a school look like?

And, would social ethics face a downward spike?

In teacher’s absence, each student degrades, 

Be it a master of one, or a jack of all trades.

Rules are still there, but now no one abides,

School ramps are now their playground slides.

All educational institutions are now centres of havoc.

Earlier a regulator, now it is an unwound clock.

In the minds of students, there’s not even a bit of fear.

They are like free bicycles, without anyone to steer.

At first, the best friends have their fullest fun, 

They dance, they play, they sing, and they run.

But later, they have a feeling of an unusual void, 

Previously excited, yet now they’re highly annoyed.

Even the troublemakers now wanted to study,

To teach them, they eagerly waited for somebody.

They missed even the most brutal red pen,

For this tragedy, who can be considered the villain?

From that day onwards, they had learnt a lesson,

Their insatiable curiosity, only teachers can lessen.

The hatred converted into emotional attachment,

In their behaviour, we could see a major assent.

Now I know, that my thinking was definitely wrong,

We all are deeply indebted to our teachers, lifelong.

On this special occasion, therefore, let us all acclaim,

If students are an unlit torch, the teacher is the flame.
