Poem : The Story of Giridhar

This is the first time Advay has expressed a story in the form of a poem (written a ballad). Please motivate him if you do like it.

Happy Janmashtami 🎉

The Story of Giridhar

After scorching heat, comes pleasant rain,
When nature itself, waters the grain.
This monsoon season, has many folklores,
Full of lessons, worth several crores.

They are one of the earliest creations,
Passed along many several generations.
Let me narrate, one of the folktales,
Where arrogance, fury and anger fails.

The auspicious and holy place of Mathura,
Acted as the residence of Lord Krishna.
The villagers were farmers by occupation,
And revered Lord Indra, for apt irrigation.

One fine day, with a question in his head,
In an innocent voice, Lord Krishna said,
“Why worship Indra? What does he do,”
As if attempting, to get a small clue.

Maa Yashoda replied, “There’s a reason,
He is the god of the monsoon season.”
Krishna understood, but was dissatisfied.
To share his view, he moved a bit aside.

“Why not worship Mount Govardhan?
For our cattle, it is the grass garden.”
Everyone agreed, and did the same.
For Indra, it became a matter of shame.

As a result, he started raining exceedingly.
For seven days, it rained increasingly.
Nothing was harmed, he was surprised,
The savior’s God himself, he had realized.

He came down, in order to apologize,
But he couldn’t simply believe his eyes.
A boy held a mountain on his li’l finger,
None other than Shri Krishna, or Giridhar.
